Named for the madhumalati, the twining flower that blooms in clusters through Indian courtyards, this choker carries the same abundance. A rigid band worked with flowers and trailing vines, framed by beaded borders, with a full row of ghungroo bells along the lower edge. Oxidised silver, and quietly musical.

Each piece is shaped by hand by our artisans, so slight variations in finish, oxidisation and detailing are natural and are part of the character of your piece.

Description

The madhumalati is the flower that climbs quietly over courtyard walls across India, opening in clusters and changing colour as the day goes on. This choker was named for it, and it carries the same sense of abundance. Flowers and trailing vines are worked across the full width of a rigid band, each bloom raised by hand, with fine beaded borders running above and below to hold the design in place.

Along the lower edge hangs a complete row of ghungroo bells, the small silver bells that have accompanied Indian dance and celebration for centuries. They give the piece its soft, continuous music and a gentle movement that a rigid band would not otherwise have. The oxidised finish sinks into the vine work and around every petal, so the floral detail reads clearly from across a room.

The Madhumalati Ghungroo Choker sits high and close at the throat, which makes it a natural partner for a deep-necked blouse, a silk saree or a festive lehenga. Wear it for weddings, sangeets, Navratri evenings and Diwali gatherings, on its own as the single statement of the look, or layered above a longer chain for a fuller traditional neckline.

Key Highlights

  • Rigid choker band worked end to end with floral and trailing vine detail.
  • Full row of ghungroo bells along the lower edge for soft movement and sound.
  • Fine beaded borders framing the design above and below.
  • Deep oxidised finish that brings out every petal and vine.
  • Handcrafted in India by our rural artisan partners.

Jewellery Care

  • Store in the provided pouch or an airtight box, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
  • Avoid contact with perfume, deodorant, hairspray, water and household chemicals; wear jewellery last and remove it first.
  • Gently wipe after each wear with a soft, dry cloth to preserve shine.
  • For oxidised silver, do not use silver-polish liquid or harsh dips, as these strip the antique black patina. Clean only with a soft dry cloth.
  • Remove before sleeping, bathing, swimming, exercising and household work.
