Chandramukhi means moon-faced, an old compliment in Indian poetry for a face that carries its own light. These earrings put the sun and the moon in one piece: a sun-motif stud at the ear, and below it a fringe of crescent moons falling in a row.

The sun is worked with raised rays radiating from a central point, and each crescent in the fringe is shaped separately before being hung, so the row moves individually rather than as a single plate. The oxidised finish is deepest between the rays and inside the crescents, which is what gives the piece its bold graphic contrast.
