A serpent coils around the finger and comes to rest with its head raised, body set with small sparkling stones and a dark stone for the eye. In Indian tradition the serpent is a guardian, shedding its skin and beginning again, a symbol of protection and renewal. Oxidised silver, 6.3 g.

Each piece is shaped by hand by our artisans, so slight variations in finish, oxidisation and detailing are natural and are part of the character of your piece.

Description

The serpent has never been a frightening figure in Indian tradition. It coils at Shiva's throat, it shelters the sleeping Vishnu, and it is honoured every year at Naag Panchami. Because it sheds its skin and begins again, it has long stood for protection and renewal, for the idea that something can be shed without being lost. The Ahira Serpent Ring takes that idea and wraps it around the finger.

The body coils once and comes to rest with the head raised across the top of the finger, so the ring reads differently from every angle. Small sparkling stones are set along the length of the body to catch the light as the hand moves, and a single dark stone forms the eye. Our artisans work the scales and the taper of the body by hand, and the oxidised finish settles between them to give the serpent its depth and its weight on the skin.

At 6.3 g the Ahira Serpent Ring is light enough to live on the hand every day. Wear it alone as a quiet talisman with everyday ethnic wear, or let it anchor a stacked hand of silver for festivals, Naag Panchami, Mahashivratri and evenings out.

  • Light 6.3 g weight, comfortable for everyday wear.

Jewellery Care

  • Store in the provided pouch or an airtight box, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
  • Avoid contact with perfume, deodorant, hairspray, water and household chemicals; wear jewellery last and remove it first.
  • Gently wipe after each wear with a soft, dry cloth to preserve shine.
  • For oxidised silver, do not use silver-polish liquid or harsh dips, as these strip the antique black patina. Clean only with a soft dry cloth.
  • Remove before sleeping, bathing, swimming, exercising and household work.
